Course Description
Pipeline & Facilities Inspector/Supervisor Training
Objectives:
Learn about relevant code requirements and good practices for design, fabrication, inspection, and testing of pipeline and facilities in accordance with CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASTM, API and other Standards. This is an up to-date course that was originally developed to comply with the 2009 CAPP “Competency Assessment for Oil and Gas Pipeline and Facility Installation Inspectors”. New construction and post-construction repairs and maintenance work will be presented, along with material standards, welding qualifications, and roles and responsibilities.
An important part of achieving these objectives is to understand the jurisdictional requirements such as the provincial and federal Acts and Regulations. The jurisdictional boundaries between the pressure equipment regulator (e.g. ABSA) and the pipeline systems regulator (e.g. AER, BCER, SER, CER) will be discussed, along with practical field examples.
Topics:
-
Pipeline Systems Codes, Regulations, Laws, and Jurisdictional requirements.
-
CSA Z662 Pipeline Systems; CSA Z245 Material Standards

Course presentation materials will be provided to all participants. Attendees may benefit from bringing a
copy of the CSA Z662 and ASME B31.3 standard to the course, but it is not mandatory.
Our Group 10 Academy Instructor: Frank Gareau, P. Eng.
Frank is a P.Eng. and has over 45 years of corrosion materials and asset integrity experience in relation to pipelines, pressure equipment and tanks in the energy industry in both upstream midstream and refining. Frank has worked for large mature oil and gas companies with global operations and has been principal engineer with asset integrity and engineering service organizations. He has completed applied research projects for many of the non-metallic pipeline systems, has specialization in management systems, risk processes, and codes and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, and has provided training for regulators and industry alike.
Frank has been the primary subject matter expert in multiple high profile incident investigations including failure analysis support and root cause analysis.
Benefits of Training with Group 10 Engineering:
Group 10 Engineering is a leader in pipeline and pressure equipment integrity management services and
therefore in a perfect position to provide a significant amount of added value in our training. Our training
sessions include practical applications, comparisons of jurisdictional requirements, information on best
practices, and practical interpretation and application of the various tasks required.
